This match reported by The Canberra Times Staff (Third Party Reference from The Canberra Times)

The Pakistanis were bundled out of the World Series Cup by the West Indies, scoring 71, three runs off their 74 against England in last year's World Cup, which they went on to win after weather luckily gained them a point in the England game.

The WSC is now a two-horse race after the West Indies easily overhauled the target in 19.2 overs, losing only one wicket.

Brian Lara went for 10, caught at third man attempting a cut shot. Desmond Haynes remained unbeaten on 25 with Richie Richardson 22.

Richardson summed up a miserable day for Pakistan by hitting the winning runs with a six off Mushtaq Ahmed.

Collapses are nothing new for Pakistan, as evidenced by its disastrous 81, also at the hands of the West Indies, in Sydney last month when Phil Simmons took 4-3 from 10 overs.

Although today's innings surpassed Canada's worst international total of 45, it was the quickest in one-day history, taking just 23.4 overs in 116 minutes, three balls short of India's 24.1-over innings against Sri Lanka in Kanpur in 1986-87.

The top six Pakistani batsmen, including captain Javed Miandad, managed 12 runs between them, with keeper Rashid Latif top scoring with 22 and bowler Wasim Akram chipping in with 19. Sundries were third top score with 12.

After five overs Pakistan limped to 3-8, then 5-27 after ten, 6-35 after 15 and 8-57 after 20.

Adding to the embarrassment was the fact the pitch was hardly to blame, with the top order falling mainly through their own poor judgement.

Paceman lan Bishop finished with a career-best 5-25 from 8.4 overs and the man-of-the-match award, while Curtly Ambrose, again bowling as first change, took 3-13 from six. Kenneth Benjamin's figures were 2-16 from six.
