Match Stats:
- India lost their last seven wickets for just 30-runs - which was their second worst last seven-wicket collapse in one-day international after their last 7-wickets collapse for 21 against Sri Lanka at Colombo (RPS) in 1993 and it is their worst last 7-wicket collapse against West Indies in ODIs. They went from 201 for 3 to 231 for all out. Their previous worst such collapse was seven for 31-runs against West Indies at Wellington in the 1992 World Cup.
Match Report:
Fast bowler Ottis Gibson and wicket-keeper Courtney Browne turned from villains to heroes as they combined to inspire an dramatic 18-run victory by the West Indies over India in the crucial third Cable and Wireless one-day cricket international at Arnos Vale.
Chasing a challenging West Indies' total of 249 for nine off 50 overs, India were dismissed for 231, their last seven wickets falling for just 30 runs.
The victory gave the West Indies an unbeatable 2-1 lead in the four-match series which ends in Barbados on Saturday with the final game.
Gibson and Browne were both booed by the crowd earlier in the day but the fast bowler took four vital wickets and Browne featured in three late run outs to win the hearts of the spectators who felt both should not have been in the regional team.
India were cruising along at 157 for two with opener Saurav Ganguly, who made 79 and Rahul Dravid (74) featuring in a second wicket stand of 130 runs when Gibson, who was forced out of the attack after his first two overs cost 18 runs, returned for a second spell.
Gibson, 28, in his first game for the West Indies since last year's World Cup, broke the stand in his first over when he bowled Dravid, and added three more wickets to finish with four for 61 off 10 overs as he swung the match in the West Indies' favour.
Browne, his Barbadian compatriot, also played a key role, featuring in three run outs as India desperately attempted a series of suicidal runs.
Earlier, man-of-the-match Stuart Williams, with his best one-day score of 76 and Carl Hooper, who hit a fluent 48, had stabilised the West Indies' innings.
In reply, India, despite the early loss of captain Sachin Tendulkar, bowled by Courtney Walsh for nine with the score on 27, batted sensibly, scoring freely against the West Indies bowlers.
Dravid showed little discomfort from a painful shoulder injury sustained in Sunday's second game in Trinidad and Tobago, as he went on the attack from early.
Kept in check by Walsh, whose first seven overs conceded just 17 runs, Dravid was particularly severe on Gibson, hitting him for three fours in his first over.
Gibson got revenge in a second spell when Dravid dragged a wide delivery onto his stumps with the score on 157 for two. Ganguly was out at 185 for three, caught at mid-on by Curtly Ambrose, hitting out against Franklyn Rose while Gibson struck again, bowling Ajay Jadeja for nine.
At that stage, India required another 49 runs off 53 balls but when Robin Singh skied a catch to Jimmy Adams, giving Ambrose his 198th wicket in one-day cricket, 34 runs were still required in five overs.
Browne then brilliantly ran out Anil Kumble for a "duck" and shortly afterwards, Gibson accounted for Syed Karim, who made six.
Browne then effected run outs to remove Abey Kuruvilla and Venkatesh Prasad, triggering an invasion of the field by hundreds of spectators.
Earlier, the West Indies, sent in to bat on a placid pitch before a capacity bank-holiday crowd of 12,000, made a cautious start, before Williams, and Brian Lara (33) increased the tempo.
The West Indies had scored a mere 11 runs in the first eight overs against India's newball pair of Prasad and Kuruvilla while losing the wicket of the reliable Shivnarine Chanderpaul for five.
But Williams and Lara, who hit five fours in a cameo 38-ball knock added 60 for the second wicket.
Lara struck medium pacer Robin Singh for three fours in one over but just when he was threatening to tear the attack apart, the bowler had the last laugh, bowling him off the inside edge.
Adams fell to tidy off-spinner Noel. David for just nine at 86 for three but Carl Hooper joined Williams and stabilised the innings with a fluent 48 off 69 balls in an entertaining fourth-wicket stand of 84 runs off 16.2 overs which took the score to 170 for four with 11 overs left.
The West Indies, scoring at seven runs an over, added a further 79 runs while losing the wickets of Williams, Hooper, Gibson (3) and Roland Holder (16) and Ambrose (13) in the late chase for quick runs.
Williams, who struck six fours and a six in his 110-ball innings was out in disappointing fashion, caught at mid-on off the slow medium pace bowling of Tendulkar.
Apart from seamer Prasad, India's most successful bowler with two for 53, Kuruvilla (1-34) and David (1-38) bowled economically.
