Grant Elliott holds nerve as New Zealand tense 3-run victory over Sri Lanka, despite a Debutant Danushka Gunathilaka's quick-fire 29-ball 46 and take a 1-0 lead in a high-voltage first T20I.

New Zealand's 3-run win was their joint smallest victory by terms of runs in T20 internationals, jointly with their smallest win against same opponent at Colombo (RPS) in 2009. 101 : Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson set up the record first-wicket partnership for New Zealand against Sri Lanka in T20 international, previously held by the 84-run stand between Brendon McCullum and Jesse Ryder at Colombo (RPS) in 2009 and New Zealand's fifth highest opening stand in T20Is. New Zealand's 182 was their highest score against Sri Lanka in T20 internationals, previous highest was 174 at Pallekele in 2012.  Sri Lanka's 179 was their highest score against New Zealand in T20 internationals, previous highest was 174 at Pallekele in 2012.

New Zealand scored 182-4 in 20 overs with top scorer by Martin Guptill blasted a 58 off 34-balls including 4-sixes & 4-fours with strike rate of 170.58.

Kane Williamson struck 53 off 42-balls including 5-fours & a six, Colin Munro cracked a 36 off 26-balls included 2-sixes & 2-fours and Ross Taylor hammered a unbeaten 22 off 9-balls including 3-fours & a six with strike rate of 244.44.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Nuwan Kulasekara took 2-wickets and one for Jeffrey Vandersay.

Sri Lanka scored 179-9 in 20 overs with top scorer by debutant Danushka Gunathilaka - who hammered a 46 off 29-balls on his debut T20I match - including 3-fours & 2-sixes with strike rate of 158.62.

Milinda Siriwardana struck 42 off 31-balls including 2-sixes & 2-fours, Thisara Perera blasted a 28 off 19-balls included 3-fours & a six with strike rate of 147.36 and Chamara Kapugedera 17.

New Zealand best bowler by Trent Boult 3-21, Matt Henry picked up 3-wickets and one for Grant Elliott and Ish Sodhi.

Trent Boult named Player of the match for his brilliant bowling attack to picked up 3-wickets for 21-runs in 4-overs.
