* SUNIL GAVASKAR, the world's most prolific Test batsman, steered to India comfortable eight-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in a one-day international with a majestic unbeaten 70 - which he get man-of-the-match award.

* The Indian win, in front of 25,000 plus spectators, squared the five-match series with 1-1.

* India's bowlers build the foundation for victory by restricting Sri Lanka to 145 for eight in 46 overs on a pitch made trecherous by excessive watering the night before.

* Four wickets fell for just 33 runs before Sri Lankan captain Duleep Mendis and Roy Dias briefly steadied the innings, putting on 58 run stand for the fifth wicket.



Sri Lanka scored 145-8 in the alloted 46 overs with top scorer by Duleep Mendis scored 31 off 48-balls including two boundaries.

Roy Dias scored 26 off consuming 69-balls including 2-fours, Ranjan Madugale 22 not out and Rumesh Ratnayake 17.

India best bowler by Shivlal Yadav, Ravi Shastri both took 2-wickets, Madan Lal, Mohinder Singh and Kapil Dev each took one-wickets.

India chased 146-2 in 27.3 overs with top scorer by Sunil Gavaskar cracked a unbeaten 70 off 83-balls including 6-fours & a six, Dilip Vengsarkar hit a unbeaten 43 off 62-balls included 4-fours and Kris Srikkanth 19.

Sri Lanka best bowler by Rumesh Ratnayake and Ravi Ratnayeke both took one-wickets.
