This match reported by Peter Walker (Third Party Reference from The Daily Telegraph)

A DEVASTATING spell of bowling by Courtney Walsh, who according to West Indies' manager Jackie Hendricks is their bowling find of the Eighties, routed Sri Lanka in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Walsh's return of five for one in 4.3 overs ensured that the West Indies took the "Champion's Trophy" tournament in the desert by winning all three of their round-robin matches.

Their winning margin of 193 runs is the biggest since the tournament began six years ago.

Soon in trouble

An innings of 109 by Richie Richardson, which included eight fours and a six in an opening partnership of 132 with Gordon Greenidge, after they had been put into bat, took the West Indies to the highest total of the tournament.

When Sri Lanka batted, they were soon in trouble and when Walsh came on with the score at 45 for four he whipped out the remaining batsmen with a clinical combination of pace and direction.

Even so, tomorrow's match between India and Pakistan, to settle who finishes as runners-up, is a certain sell-out.
