Andrew Jones' half-century, Spinner Dipak Patel's three-for and Simon Doull's impressive debut helped to New Zealand narrow 22-run victory over Zimbabwe and take a 1-0 lead in the first ODI 


New Zealand scored 244-7 in 50 overs with top scorer by Andrew Jones cracked a 68 off 106-balls including 4-fours.

Rod Latham struck 45 off 59-balls including 2-fours & a six, Martin Crowe cracked a 40 off 56-balls included one-six & a four.

Ken Rutherford scored a unbeaten 35 off 47-balls including a boundary and Mark Greatbatch hit 21 off 11-balls contained 3-fours & a six with strike rate of 190.90.

Zimbabwe best bowler by Grant Flower picked up 3-wickets for 39-runs in 10-overs including a maiden, David Brain and Ali Shah both took one-wickets.

Zimbabwe bowled out for 222-9 in 50 overs with top scorer by Debutant Mark Dekker - who scored 79 off 118-balls on his debut ODI match - including 4-fours & a six.

Ali Shah struck 25 off 33-balls including 2-fours, Andy Waller hit 23 off 24-balls included 3-fours, Craig Evans scored 22 off 42-balls contained one-six & a four.

Dave Houghton hit 19 off 28-balls including a boundary and David Brain scored a unbeaten 16 off 17-balls contained a boundary.

New Zealand best bowler by Dipak Patel picked up 3-wickets, Willie Watson captured two-wickets.

Debutant Simon Doull - who took 2-wickets on his debut ODI match and Rod Latham picked up one-wicket.

Dipak Patel named Player of the match for his brilliant spin bowling performance to picked up 3-wickets for 26-runs in 10-overs including two maidens with economy rate of 2.60.
