Part-time bowler Phil Simmons entered the record books with the most economical bowling performance in international one-day cricket.
His stunning figures of 4-3 off 10 overs at the Sydney Cricket Ground helped bowl Pakistan out for only 81 runs in reply to the West Indies' 9-214.
The medium pacer had figures of 10-8-3-4, surpassing Indian spinner Bishen Bedi's performance of 12-8-6-1.
He extracted so much life from the pitch only two scoring shots were produced off his 60-ball effort - Inzamam ul-Haq striking a two in his fourth over and Wasim Akram a single in the eighth.
Officials were first sent scampering for the record books in the sixth over as Pakistan crashed to 4-9 and then 5-14 in the 12th over.
Only Bangladesh has made a worse start, crashing to 4-8 against Sri Lanka at home in 1988-89, however Pakistan can claim second rung on the ladder alongside Zimbabwe, which also capitulated to 4-9 against England in 1983.
Pakistan passed the ignominy of the lowest score in World Series history when Patrick Patterson sent a bouncer soaring over Mustaq Ahmed with the first ball of the 40th over.
That record belongs to India, which crashed to 63 against Australia in 1980-81.
The only batsman to dominate the bowler all day was veteran West Indies opener Desmond Haynes, who scored a slow 96 before falling in the dying overs.
Windies captain Richie Richardson was the next-best scorer with 33. Simmons troubled the Pakistan top order from his first ball, bowling Asif Mujtaba for the second wicket.
In his third over Simmons had Aamir Suhail caught for six and Salim Malik caught for a duck to end the over with 3-0.
Simmons claimed his fourth wicket in the 12th over when he had Pakistan captain Javed Miandad caught behind by Junior Murray for two.
